Key facts at a glance

  • What it is: a system developed by Samuel Hahnemann in 1796, based on “like cures like” and highly diluted remedies chosen for the whole person.
  • In India: a recognised AYUSH system, taught in BHMS and MD (Hom) courses and regulated by the National Commission for Homoeopathy.
  • The evidence: independent reviews have found no reliable evidence that remedies work better than placebo for any condition; the consultation itself can help people feel better.
  • Safety: well-made high potencies are usually harmless in themselves; the risks are delaying effective treatment, low potencies of toxic substances, alcohol in tinctures, and contaminated or adulterated products.
  • The sensible approach: use homeopathy, if you choose it, alongside medical care — never instead of it for anything serious, long-term or potentially serious.

Conditions by body system

Each page covers the condition itself, warning signs, treatments with good evidence, self-care, the homeopathic approach and what research shows.

Find a homeopath

If you would like to try homeopathy, see a registered homeopathic doctor (BHMS or MD (Hom)) who will take a full history, knows your other treatment and will tell you when you need a medical specialist. Take your prescriptions and recent test reports with you.

No homeopaths have a profile on NeedsDoctor yet, so we cannot suggest one here. Choosing a homeopath explains how to check a practitioner’s qualifications and registration.

Are you a homeopathic doctor? Create your profile so readers of this page can find you.
