How to read this medicine catalog safely
This page is a name index, not a prescription or a list of proven cures. Formulations with similar names can
differ by text, manufacturer, ingredients and strength. A qualified practitioner should match the exact product,
route and duration to a confirmed condition, your health history and every medicine you already take.
Do not self-prescribe metal or mineral preparations. Some Ayurvedic products have been found
to contain harmful levels of lead, mercury or arsenic. Pregnancy, breastfeeding, childhood, older age, liver
or kidney disease, planned surgery and multiple medicines all require extra review.
Arishta / Asava
Traditionally fermented liquids. They may contain naturally produced alcohol and sugars, so the label and individual suitability matter.
Churna / Kashaya
Powders and decoctions. Preparation method and concentration vary; household spoons are not precise measuring devices.
Vati / Gulika / Capsules
Pills, tablets and capsules. The dosage form does not reveal all ingredients, strength, interactions or evidence.
Ghrita / Taila
Medicated ghee and oils. Oral, topical, nasal and procedure-specific products are not interchangeable.
Lehya / Avaleha
Semi-solid preparations often made with a sweet or fatty base. Check allergens and carbohydrate content as well as active ingredients.
Bhasma / Rasa
Processed metal- or mineral-containing preparations. These need specialist selection, traceable manufacture and appropriate quality controls.
Check the exact product
- Full formulation and ingredient names, including metals, minerals and excipients.
- Manufacturer, licence details, sealed packaging, batch, expiry and storage instructions.
- Intended route: oral, topical, nasal or procedure-only.
- Written amount, timing, duration, review date and what benefit will be monitored.
- Any unexplained catalogue suffix, including “(vos),” with the dispensing practitioner.
Tell both care teams
- Share all prescriptions, over-the-counter medicines, supplements and herbal products.
- Ask specifically about bleeding, sedation, glucose, blood-pressure, thyroid and liver interactions.
- Do not stop prescribed treatment because a traditional product has been started.
- Stop and seek advice for rash, swelling, jaundice, confusion, unusual bleeding or worsening illness.
- Keep the container if an unwanted effect occurs so the exact product can be reported.
