Overview
Chronic laryngitis refers to persistent inflammation/irritation of the larynx (voice box), commonly
presenting with ongoing hoarseness and vocal strain. Triggers often include reflux, irritants/smoke,
allergies, infections, or voice overuse.
Symptoms
- Hoarseness, breathy/rough voice, reduced vocal range
- Frequent throat clearing, sensation of a lump in throat
- Dry cough, vocal fatigue after talking
- Occasional sore throat or dryness
Seek medical care for red flags: difficulty breathing, noisy breathing (stridor), blood in sputum, or persistent hoarseness > 3–4 weeks.
Ayurvedic Perspective (Supportive)
Traditional descriptions relate chronic throat irritation to imbalances of Vata and/or Pitta,
with dryness or heat affecting vocal tissues. Supportive care aims to soothe tissues, maintain moisture,
and calm irritation—complementary to ENT guidance.
