Bronchial asthma (Tamak Śvāsa) is a chronic, intermittent inflammatory disease of the airways characterized by episodes of dyspnoea, cough, airflow obstruction and wheeze. Psychological stress often aggravates symptoms.
In Ayurvedic language, aggravated kapha accumulates and narrows airways; disturbed vata worsens spasms and variability. Triggers include cold/damp climate, stale/cold food, heavy/indigestible meals, allergens/irritants, infections and the build-up of āma (toxins/mucus) in channels.
Care starts with improving digestion and clearing āma. Herbal measures then help liquefy and mobilize kapha, allow balanced movement of vata, and support immunity. Depending on the person, physicians may use deepana-pācana (kindling & digestion), gentle śodhana where appropriate, and rasāyana tonics—always under supervision and in coordination with inhalers/modern therapy.
Home tips can be supportive but are not a replacement for prescribed controllers/relievers.
